Coach Burt took over the program in December of 2018 to revamp the program, leading the Herons to win 40 games in the last two seasons and a trip to the Final Four of the USCAA DII National Tournament.
In his fourth season with the Herons in 2023/24, Coach Burt led the program to an overall record of 18-8 and nationally ranked as high as 8th in USCAA DII. Two student-athletes were both USCAA DII All-American selections and YSCC All-Conference selections. Additionally, the Herons had two student-athletes surpass the 1,000-point milestone.
The previous season, 2022/23, Coach Burt was selected USCAA DII National Coach of the Year as the Herons posted an overall record of 22-9, including an at-large bid to the USCAA DII National Tournament. In the tournament, the #10 Herons defeated both #7 Villa Maria (79-67) and #2 Penn State Mont Alto (75-58), advancing them to the Final Four where they lost to #3 Miami Hamilton (69-61). The Herons were the YSCC Conference Runner-Up as well.
The Herons have had 4 Academic All-American, 14 Academic All-Conference, 2 All-American, and 2 All-Conference selections, as well as have transferred student-athletes as high as NCAA DI throughout Coach Burt’s tenure.
Prior to GBCC, Coach Burt was an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Southern Vermont College in 2017/18. SVC posted a record of 22-6 and won the NECC Conference Championship, earning them an auto-bid to the NCAA DIII National Tournament. The Head Coach of the Mountaineers, Dan Engelstad, was selected NECC Coach of the Year, one student-athlete was selected NECC Player of the Year, and another student-athlete was selected NECC Defensive Player of the Year.
Coach Burt is a 2015 graduate of Plymouth State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He also played basketball, amassing a total of 1,045 career points, and captained the team as a senior. After the conclusion of his collegiate playing career, he went on to play professionally in the United Kingdom and Germany.
He is a 2010 graduate from Dover High School where he was named Mr. New Hampshire Basketball and was a McDonald’s All-American Nominee.
