Great Bay Community College Herons Capture First-Ever YSCC Championship with 71-55 Victory Over Vermont State Randolph

South Portland, ME – The Great Bay Community College Herons men's basketball team made history on Sunday, March 2, 2025, winning the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship with a commanding 71-55 victory over the Vermont State University Randolph Knights at Southern Maine Community College.

With the win, the Herons secured their first-ever YSCC title and capped off an impressive season with a 23-5 overall record.

Great Bay set the tone early, leading 35-27 at halftime and never relinquishing control in the second half, outscoring the Knights 36-28.

Tournament MVP & Offensive MVP Shine

  • Theo Wolfe was named YSCC Tournament MVP after another dominant performance, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists.
  • Keith Landry earned Offensive MVP honors with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, including a stellar 5-for-8 performance from three-point range.
  • Ethan May added 12 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, controlling the tempo from the point guard position.
  • Off the bench, Cam O'Brien chipped in 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting in a key supporting role.

Vermont State Randolph was led by Tyler Allen, who scored 21 points, and Jaylon Calvin, who finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

What's Next

With the YSCC Championship secured, the Herons have earned an automatic bid to the USCAA Division II National Tournament, in Buffalo, NY where they will represent Great Bay on the national stage.
